The Artists’ Alliance (AA) at Jarrett Thor Fine Arts is excited about the December show featuring artist Kathryn Murray. The show is titled, “Inner and Outer Visions”. Kathryn offers her personal views of the world, as depicted through painting and photography. She experiments with painting techniques as well as still life photo variations. Acrylic paint on tissue paper is the medium she uses for her abstract paintings. The completed tissue paper paintings are either applied to canvas or to board and then fully sealed. The still life photographs utilizing tissue papers as background, tell a story of shared technique and process. The still life pictures with flowers take advantage of quieter tissue papers that are better used as background for a work, rather than as a stand- alone piece. The tissue papers provide extra depth and texture to the photographs. She enjoys melding her two different passions, painting and photography, into one work. Also represented in this show are her trademark misty photos of the water on the Northern Neck.
The opening is Friday, December 11, 6-9 pm, in conjunction with Colonial Beach’s Second Friday Art Walk. The show runs through January 9, 2022. AA members are also displaying their painting, photography, pottery, sculpture, jewelry, and wood furniture, and will also offer smaller art pieces appropriate for holiday gifts. Carl and Joyce Thor continue to sell their art in the adjoining galleries.
