Oil painter Nancy Brittle is our featured artist in December. Nancy relates that the work for this show is a mixture of familiar images that surfaced in memory or caught her eye in passing. “Some pieces such as The Sisters and Dillon’s house have been formulating in my mind for a long time. Others, such as the oils of sunflowers, nasturtiums, thistles, Carl’s, boats, cats and dogs were spontaneous works of the moment because I saw something that interested me.”
The “Sisters” depicts a few of the old original cottages at Nags Head, NC that we have admired for over 60 years!
They seem to endure regardless of the elements working against them. Perhaps they are sending a message for us.
The “Sunflowers” is of sunflowers grown just a few miles from me. It seems appropriate to include a sunflower painting this year. The sudden differences in circumstances between my local fields and those of the Ukrainians was not lost on me while I worked on this. We here have much to be grateful for this season.
The opening is Friday, December 9, 5-9 pm. The show runs through January 8, 2023. The gallery is located at 100 Taylor St., Suite 101, in Colonial Beach. The public is invited free of charge.
