Experimenting with cold wax and oil, I attempted to create an abstract piece (Your Move) by integrating collage, gold leaf, oil pastels, cold wax and oils. The checkerboard pattern reminded me of game playing hence I gave it a corresponding title. I was hoping to create texture and an abstract level of interest with this medium. The “Golden Hills” piece was inspired from photos that I took out west of the red hills and desert areas of Nevada and Arizona. I saw many earthy colors within the scrubby landscape of desert plants unlike the lush greens in the east. I wanted to add some magic to my work with gold leaf to simulate the reflection of late afternoon sun.
