Umbrella Sisters

Artist Marcia Chaves

My father, Kenneth Covert, served both in  World War II and the Korean Conflict.  When he returned home, he brought Japanese flower prints for my mother, and for my sister Cindy and I, rice paper parasols.   We danced and twirled in the front yard on the bluff of our farm, Mt. Moriah, overlooking the Potomac River, not far from Colonial Beach.
