Pastel painting usually needs a surface with enough "tooth" or texture to hold the pastel. In this painting I created the tooth by applying a pumice gel mixture to the paper with a brush. You can see the brush strokes in the cloth area. After it dried I began to layer the pastel. I was also working to see if I could represent the peppers realistically in a painting. And I love the vibrant colors
