Philly Sammi was painted after some on site visits to our local deli where Sammi had just come down from Philadelphia to work. She brought a vibrancy we hadn’t seen in a while to our little town. Hair that turned different colors on different days with bright fuschia or teal rinses, lots of expressive use of jewelry, a quick genuine smile, and a birght mind made her a popular face in town. She told me I could paint her and I made some notes, then worked from memory. This is more of a composed creative statement than an actual portrait. Sammi worked hard, learned the business, saved her tips, and went on to work in higher end restaurants with a goal or owning her own..
