Built in 1936 by my grandfather, Dr. C.P. Kennedy, Hillcrest was home to my mother and I during my father’s service in World War II. It was the background of our lives for our extended family. Located on the heights in Stafford County along route #3, in what is now Argyle Heights, it faced the setting sun, and provided a dramatic perspective for all manner of spectacular meteorological events, including the “ball lightning” that my aunts witnessed bouncing down the hallway stairs, across the living room and up the chimney.
