October Artist Caroline Goodridge

The Artists’ Alliance (AA) at Jarrett Thor Fine Arts is featuring encaustic artist Caroline Goodridge. Her show is called "Juxtapositions". She explains, “Scientific and spiritual languages have helped me to formalize and express my subjective, quite abstract and morphogenetic world. Through study and love of science, religion, and music I am thoroughly and vigorously inspired to create organic paintings with cosmological themes.”

Encaustic on greenhouse grade glass, 24 x 57 in. diptych

My inspiration for this exhibition and the piece, Justice I, in particular is about one of the Egyptian philosophies of justice. My titles are a juxtaposition of ancient Egyptian Gods, and ancient China's idea of Yin Yang.

I bring these together under the umbrella of natural phenomenon - the cosmos, the sky, water and shapes of planets and biology.

The surface of glass is reflective, so one can see oneself. This is very important in Zen. Ironically one's original face is not a thing to be reflected but realized. The surface of the slate allows me to collaborate with authentic shapes in nature.

According to Dr. Michio Kaku, our world is made up of vibrating strings. He says, “The Mind of God is music resonating in eleven dimensions throughout hyperspace!” Through synesthesia, I hear and feel the resonance of color as sound, subtle yet visceral vibration. I experience the sound of music on a cellular level. I experience the color deep blue, for instance, as a phenomenon which lies within a dimension of being - through which I can travel. For me, all theories point to musical resonance. This idea informs my art practice using both Eastern philosophy and Western science, giving a visual voice to my frequent dreams, traveling through the cosmos. Scientific and spiritual languages have helped me to formalize and express my subjective, quite abstract and morphogenetic world. Through study and love of science, religion, and music I am thoroughly and vigorously inspired to create organic paintings with cosmological themes.

Additionally, AA members will display an array of painting, sculpture, photography, encaustics, ceramics, jewelry, and wood furniture.
