Cindy Falkenstein
As a 2-time People’s Choice award-winning multi-media artist, I find working with different media leads to more thoughtful collages, paintings, and weavings. I feel my art leans towards the modern and abstract and hopefully invokes a bit of discussion and curiosity. I’m very passionate about sharing my multimedia art and encourage others to see that art needn’t be limited to traditional oil or acrylic – and the décor we hang on the walls can include wearable art like jewelry or clothing or things made from discarded items. I find using unconventional sources like second-hand materials, maps, magazines and interesting paper scraps and bits-and-bobs, make for the most interesting conversations.
My love for travel has exposed me to multiple countries, cultures, and art. I received formal training in various art media including photography from the University of Toledo and ceramics and stained glass from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology.
After a 27-year government service career, I can now re-focus on the various forms of arts and crafts that have given me so much joy full-time. In 2025 I started working with a small hand weaving loom and other types of looms to explore textile art and weaving and continue to push boundaries when it comes to my collage and abstract paintings.
My studio: One OAK ROAD, is dedicated to creating unique, sustainable art. I believe that art and design should be unique and full of character. I like to say One OAK ROAD isn’t a place to visit, but a sense of place in our hearts where we all want to discover and explore life’s possibilities in search of One Of A Kind, Repurposed Original Art &Design (One OAK ROAD).
For the past 9 years, I’ve had the privilege of showing my art at multiple galleries within the Mid-Atlantic region including the Mattawoman Creek Art Center, Crain Memorial Welcome Center, Art Works Richmond, and Colonial Beach.
